We are delighted that our first alliance will be with Solar my School, which is an award-winning Council funded initiative that provides a free support service to schools in Sydney and regional NSW who want to source cheaper greener energy from solar panels on their rooftops.
Solar my School makes it easier for schools to ‘go solar’ by providing independent expert advice from start to finish. The team determines the optimal solar configuration for a particular school, arranges funding where possible to pay for the system, and works with school decision-makers throughout the process. Once the system is installed, they also offer educational resources to students about renewables and climate change solutions.
One of the key roles of Solar my School is to help the schools access funding for projects from external grants, and school sources which are very limited.
Regrettably, some projects may never get off the ground as schools are sometimes unable to secure the last 10%-25%. This shortfall could be as little as $5,000, and this is where ACAF can be facilitate great emission reductions for a relatively small contribution.
